Sleet, wind, and snow swept across eastern Iowa Monday during a winter storm. The storm brought four inches of snow to downtown Washington. The National Weather Service had issued a winter storm warning Monday due to the conditions, which made travel on many area roads dangerous.

JJ Bell maintenance and construction superintendent for the City of Washington tells KCII News, crews worked overnight to clear the roads in downtown Washington and began plowing the entire town again at 4 a.m. Tuesday. Bell reminds residents to remove vehicles from streets to help speed up the plowing process. Also, when clearing sidewalks and driveways of snow, do not put the snow in the streets as it is against Washington’s ordinance.

Temperatures are expected to be below freezing the rest of the week, listen to KCII for weather updates.
