Another season of Washington Demon archery is underway. All three Demon archery programs opened their competition in Center Point-Urbana Tournament last Saturday.

Washington was one of nine teams competing in the high school shoot. The Demons finished the tournament with 3,156 points, the seventh best performance at the meet. Junior John Sands placed in the top 15 in the high school boys category. His score of 277 ranked him 14th in the field. Junior Grace Shafer posted a score of 273, the 12th highest mark from a high school girl at the tournament. Six additional students scored 260 points or higher in their first shoot of the year, including senior Joseph Dalziel (273), freshman Griffin Wood (270), senior Chloe Schlatter (266), sophomore Kylee Porter (265), sophomore Cody Mellinger (262), and freshman Michael Hiller (260).

The Demon middle schoolers were the sixth best squad in their 10-team field, scoring 3,029 points. Sixth grader Lane Frana posted Washington’s best score, recording a 276 out of a possible 300 points.

The Lincoln Elementary crew had the best team finish, placing third out of eight teams with a score of 2,540 points. Fifth grader Curtis Stender posted a club-high 265 points, including eight bulls eyes.

The Washington archers will shoot again on January, 9, competing in the Mount Vernon Shoot.
