The final home game of the 2015 calendar year is set for tonight for the Washington Demon basketball programs. The Demons will host their fourth varsity doubleheader of the winter, welcoming the Keokuk Chiefs to Washington High School for a pair of Southeast Conference showdowns.

Washington’s girls’ basketball team (2-3 overall; 0-1 Southeast) returns to the floor four days removed from their 65-40 triumph over the Sigourney Savages (3-4 overall). Washington sophomore guard Sarah Nacos scored a season-best 16 points in Monday’s victory, snapping the Demons’ three-game losing streak. Nacos and senior forward Addie Pacha are tied for the team lead in scoring, chipping in 49 points a piece (9.8 points per game average).

The Chiefs (4-1 overall; 2-0 Southeast) are ranked No. 7  in the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 4A poll, winning four of their first five games of the year. Chiefs’ sophomore point guard Michael Davis leads Keokuk with 49 points scored this season.

This is the first game of Washington’s boys basketball team (2-3 overall; 1-0 Southeast) since finishing a stretch of four games played in five nights. The Demons went 2-2 in those games, finishing on Tuesday with a 62-51 setback to the Oskaloosa Indians (3-2 overall). Washington senior Derek Anding’s scoring has increased recently, averaging 26.5 points over the last two games compared to 10.3 points per game the first three contests of the year.

Since opening the season with a victory at Burlington on December 1, the Keokuk Chiefs (1-3 overall) have dropped three games, being outscored by 16 or more points in each outing. Senior forward Joel Howren is their’ leading scorer, averaging 11.3 points per game.
