Twelve dual meets into the season and still the Washington Demon wrestling team (12-0 overall; 2-0 Southeast) has yet to be bested. The Demons were in Keokuk Thursday evening, continuing their trek through the Southeast Conference versus the Chiefs (4-1 overall; 1-1 Southeast).

Washington recovered from an early six-point deficit, outlasting Keokuk, 44-26. The Demons’ scoring featured four pins, a technical fall, a decision, and two wins by forfeit. The meet started with the 120 pound weight class, and Keokuk got out to an early 9-3 lead on the Demons. Washington earned 17 points in the next three matches, overtaking the lead, 20-9. The Demons wouldn’t relinquish the advantage, outscoring the Chiefs 24-17 over the final eight grapples to win the meet, 44-26.

Washington junior Karlton Skubal, this week’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week, pushed his individual winning streak to four matches Thursday. He pinned Keokuk’s Noah Elkin, 1 minute 17 seconds into their 182 pound battle. It was Skubal’s 11th victory of the season. Junior Trey Van Weelden (152; 4:50), and freshman Garrett (106; 0:48), and Walker Ikerd (113; 0:43) earn recorded wins by fall in the team win.

The Demons finish the first half of their season today, traveling to northeast Iowa to compete in the Dike-New Hartford wrestling tournament.
