Cold shooting second halves buried the Highland Huskies basketball programs Monday night. The Huskies opened up their eventful week at home last night, entertaining the Wilton Beavers in non-conference battles.

The Huskies girls’ basketball team (10-2 overall) trailed by two points entering the halftime break. Wilton outscored Highland, 34-22, in the second half, propelling the Beavers to a 56-42 victory. Junior Kelsey Hora led the Huskies with 18 points, while senior Cheyanne Adamson added 16 points in the setback. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for the Huskies, who drop to 10-2 overall.

The Highland boys’ basketball team (8-3 overall) shouldered a four-point halftime deficit versus Wilton. The Beavers outscored the Huskies, 31-12 in the second half, bringing the final score to 69-46. Since the start of the new year, Highland is averaging 47.7 points, compared to 64.6 point before the holiday break. Senior Tucker Hall was the only Highland player in double figures, posting 10 points. The setback pushes Highland’s record to 8-3 overall.

The Huskies have a quick turnaround, resuming conference play tonight in Letts versus the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons. The varsity doubleheader commences at 6 p.m. with tip off of the girls’ game and the boys will follow.
