Two local boys’ basketball teams will battle on the hardwood tonight. The Washington Demons (2-5 overall) and the Iowa Mennonite School (6-1 overall) will resume regular season play tonight in Washington.

The matchup features two of the best scoring guards in the area. Washington’s Derek Anding and the Iowa Mennonite School’s Eli Gingerich are each averaging over 17 points per game this season. The pair of 2016 graduates both competed this summer in the Prime Time Basketball League in North Liberty, putting their skills to the test against the best college basketball players from Iowa. Some of the notable basketball players a part of the league includes the University of Iowa’s Jared Uthoff and Adam Woodbury, along with the Univerity of Northern Iowa’s Wes Washpun.

Each player has seen their points per game average increase from their junior seasons. Anding, who posted 13.4 points a contest last season, is averaging 18.1 points in the first seven games of the year. Gingerich, who posted 14.8 points a game as a junior, is pouring in 17.1 points.

This marks the seventh meeting between the schools since 2009 with each team winning three games a piece. Washington won the last contest between the schools, a 59-46 triumph at Hillcrest Union last January.

The non-conference battle is set to commence at 7:30. Live play-by-play coverage begins with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 7 p.m. tonight on KCII and KCIIRadio.com.
