The Washington Demon boys’ and girls’ bowling teams resumed regular season competition this past weekend. The first meet of the new year had the Demons travel to Flamingo Lanes in Fairfield for a Southeast Conference meet against the Trojans.
The boys’ game featured a close battle between the rival schools, seeing the final margin of victory under 25 points. In the end, Washington (3-3 overall) fell to Fairfield (4-2 overall), 2,514-2,490. The Demons’ top five bowlers all recorded two game individual scores above 300 points, led by junior Colin Zear with 341 points. Fairfield held a 1,669-1,649 lead after the individual rounds, edging Washington in the baker rounds, 845-841.
The girls’ match saw the Trojans (5-1 overall) best the Demons (1-4 overall), 2,554-1,727. The Demons came into Saturday’s competition averaging 1,525 points per contest, improving 121 points since their last competition on December 19. Sophomore Anna Marie Walter posted the Demons’ top individual score, recording 272 points over two games.
The Demon bowlers will host their first meet of the 2016 calendar year this Saturday, welcoming the Mount Pleasant Panthers to town for a Southeast Conference battle. First pins drop at 2 p.m. at Lebowski’s Rock N Bowl.
