The struggles against conference competition continued Friday for the Washington Demon boys’ basketball team (3-7 overall; 1-3 Southeast). As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons traveled to Mount Pleasant for a league showdown with their long time rivals the Panthers (6-3 overall; 4-0 Southeast). After a competitive first four minutes, Mount Pleasant scored the final 10 points of the first quarter, helping the Panthers to a 62-40 victory.

The game was tied at six before the Panthers took the lead for good, ending the first quarter scoring the final 10 points. Mount Pleasant held a 12-point halftime advantage, increasing their lead to as many as 24 points in the second half.

Washington sophomore Jack Redlinger scored a career-best 15 points to lead the Demons’ scoring. Senior Derek Anding chipped in 11 points.

Mount Pleasant sophomore Brady Sartorious poured in a game-high 25 points. Sophomores Jordan Magnani and Kieran Kohorst each recorded 13 points in the win, preserving the Panthers’ undefeated conference record.

Washington’s girls’ basketball evened their overall record at 5-5 with a 44-35 win over the Panthers.

Both Demon basketball teams will resume regular season play today in Center Point, battling the Stormin’ Pointers in a non-conference doubleheader.
