One dual stands between the Washington Demon wrestling team (18-0) and their third Southeast Conference championship in a row. The DemonS resumed regular season competition at Washington High School Thursday, entertaining the Fort Madison Bloodhounds (2-3 overall) in a Southeast Conference grapple. The Demons won 12 of the 14 matches, coming away with a 50-9 triumph.

Washington’s scoring included two pins, two wins by forfeit, one technical fall, and seven decisions. Fort Madison earned their points off of a pin and a decision.

Junior Andrew Waite (126; 1:45) and freshman Tristan Westphal-Edwards (160; 2:36) earned the Demons’ two wins by fall. Junior Austin Hazelett (138) had his match result in a 16-0 technical fall. Senior Bryce Rickey (170; 3-2), juniors Karlton Skubal (182; 8-1) and Trey Van Weelden (152; 4-1), sophomores Tanner Murphy (195; 3-0) and Colin Murphy (220; 6-0), and freshman Walker Ikerd (113; 8-3) won their bouts by decision.

The win gives Washington a share of this year’s Southeast Conference wrestling title, and preserves the Demons’ undefeated dual record, extending it to 18-0. Washington is set to compete in this weekend’s Gary Curtis Invitational, hosted by Highland High School. First matches from rural Riverside are set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
