A non-conference doubleheader rendered a pair of victories Tuesday evening for the Washington Demon basketball programs. As heard on FM 106.1 and KCIIRadio.com, the Demons welcomed the Central Lee Hawks to Washington High School for two varsity games. Washington took both games by slim margins, winning 57-55 in the girls’ contest and 71-63 in the boys’ matchup.

The girls’ game saw Washington (7-8 overall) jump out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter on No. 14 Central Lee of Class 3A, scoring a season-high 24 points in the opening eight minutes. The Demons held a 30-11 advantage at halftime, being outscored 44-27 after intermission. Four seniors scored in double figures for Washington, led by Addie Pacha with 13 points. Amber Salow chipped in 11 points, while Brynna DeLong and McKayla Miller each added 10 points in the win. This marks the first victory of the season for the Demons versus a ranked opponent.

Bench scoring was a notable stat in the boys’ game. Sophomore Dalton Myers led Washington with 23 points. Central Lee (4-12 overall) had three players score in double figures, led by sophomore Evan Doyle with 17 points.
