The Washington Demon basketball programs started the second half of the season on the right foot Saturday evening. The Demons hosted a pair of non-conference opponents on the first day of competition after the holiday break.

The Washington girls’ basketball team (3-5 overall) opened up the doubleheader versus the Burlington Greyhounds, running away with a 65-44 victory. Seniors Addie Pacha and Brynna DeLong scored 17 points a piece in the win for Washington..

The Washington boys’ basketball team (3-5 overall) used a 26-8 second quarter run to jump out to a 20-point halftime lead over the Iowa Mennonite School (6-2 overall), ultimately winning 68-55 over IMS. Washington senior Derek Anding poured in a game-high 31 points, while junior Nick Yutzy 18 points in a loss for IMS.

Both Washigton basketball teams improve to 3-5 overall on the season. They both return to the floor Tuesday evening, hosting the Fort Madison Bloodhounds in a Southeast Conference tilt.
