The current leading scorer of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North has been spending extra time in gym this winter. Winfield-Mount Union senior Zach Davis struggled to score in early December, connecting on 13 of his first 32 shot attempts, averaging 12 points through his first three games.

Davis, this week’s KCII’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week, asked the coaches if he could put up extra shots to improve his offensive efficiency. He told KCII Sports he puts up 50 extra three-point shots during game day mornings.

Davis, who leads the SEISC North with 184 points scored, is averaging 18.5 points per game over his last eight games. He has scored 19 or more points in seven games.

W-MU boys’ basketball coach Brad Doerring appreciates Davis’s additional work outside of regular practice time, stating he has become a great team leader.

The W-MU Wolves boys’ basketball team (7-4 overall) resumes regular season play Tuesday, traveling to Packwood for a SEISC North battle against the Pekin Panthers (8-3 overall).
