A pair of senior forwards led the Washington Demon girls’ basketball team (3-5 overall) to their first win of the new year over the weekend. The Demons opened their 2016 schedule Saturday afternoon, hosting the Burlington Greyhounds (1-8 overall). Washington jumped out to an eight-point lead after the first quarter, cruising to a 65-44 victory.

Washington outscored Burlington, 13-5 in the first quarter and extended the lead to 32-16 at halftime. The Demons outscored the Greyhounds, 33-28, in the second half, bringing the final score to 65-44.

Senior forwards Addie Pacha and Brynna DeLong recorded the same amount of points and rebounds. The duo each scored 17 points and brought down seven rebounds in the win. Senior Morgan Kimball and sophomore Sarah Nacos were the top Demon defenders, swiping four steals a piece.

The victory improves Washington’s record to 3-5 overall. They return to the floor tomorrow evening, entertaining the Fort Madison Bloodhounds (3-5 overall) at Washington High School.
