A fourth quarter run assisted the Washington Demon girls’ basketball team (4-5 overall; 1-2 Southeast) in ending their long conference losing streak Tuesday. The Demons closed the game on a 22-6 run, upending the Bloodhounds, 47-34.

Senior Amber Salow made 15 of her game-high 19 points off of five made three point baskets, scoring her final four points from the free throw line. Sophomore Sarah Nacos poured in 10 points, all in the second half, to help Washington to their first regular season conference win since February 2014.

Washington struggled scoring in the first half, recording only three points in the opening quarter, and had 15 total points by halftime. After trailing by two possessions at intermission, Washington outscored Fort Madison 32-15 in the second half to pull out the double digit victory.

The win improves Washington to 4-5 overall, giving the Demons their first winning streak of the season. The Demons return to the floor Friday evening, hosting the Mount Pleasant Panthers (2-6 overall) in a league showdown.

The Washington Demon boys’ basketball team couldn’t complete the doubleheader sweep of Fort Madison, falling 57-54 in the nightcap. Demon senior Derek Anding had a chance to force the game into overtime, but his three-point attempt at the buzzer missed.
