One Washington senior has been invited to take part in the state’s annual all-star football game. Jack Giardino received an invitation earlier this month to play in the 2016 Iowa Shrine Bowl as an offensive utility player for the South team.

Giardino was asked to make a position change from wide receiver to running back this season, and responded by rushing for 737 yards and 10 touchdowns. He racked up 58 receiving yards on eight catches, 240 yards on nine kickoff returns, and 109 yards on nine punt returns. His efforts earned him first team-all district honors this fall.

Giardino won’t be the only Demon represented in this year’s all-star football game. ADM head football coach Mike Whisner, named as the head coach of this year’s South team, asked Washington football coach Garrison Carter to be among his assistant coaching staff.  Carter accepted a role as the team’s offensive coordinator, and told KCII Sports last month of his intentions to lobby for one of his players to represent Washington in the annual game.

Giardino joins Dayrn Sebelius (2015) and Brock Kimball (2012) as former Demon football players invited to play in the football game. Sebelius declined his invitation.

The 2016 Iowa Shrine Bowl is schedule for July 23 at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls.
