The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams made their longest road trips of the year Saturday, traveling more than two and a half hours to Bellevue for a River Valley Conference doubleheader.

The No. 13 ranked Mid-Prairie girls brought home a hard fought 50-41 win. The Golden Hawks won three of the four quarters on the day, holding a 17-12 lead after the first frame and a 32-23 lead going into the half. In the second half Mid-Prairie extended their lead to as many as 13 and finished off a nine point win. Ali Butters led the way for the Hawks with 19 points, Addison Rath and Ireland Hostetler each finished with 10. With the win Mid-Prairie is now 8-4 on the year.

The Mid-Prairie boys met up with the Bellevue boys in the second of two games Saturday. Both teams entered play looking for their first win of the season. It was the Bellevue Comets who found it, beating up on the Golden Hawks 51-35. For the second game in a row the Golden Hawks were without the services of two starters, Caleb Statler and Ben Stone due to illness. Bellevue took a 13-8 lead after the first quarter and extended that to 28-16 going into the halftime break. The Comets kept control of the game and pushed the margin to 40-23 after three quarters and finished out the win in the fourth. The Golden Hawks were led on the afternoon by Ryan Cortum with nine points. With the loss Mid-Prairie is now 0-12 on the year and will next be in action Tuesday when they host Regina in a doubleheader.
