The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team opens the 2016 portion of their schedule with a scrimmage Saturday.

Mid-Prairie will see area school Highland and Iowa Valley in action tomorrow. The Golden Hawks entered the Christmas break with a record of 5-3 overall record. Mid-Prairie is 5-2 in conference play. Mid-Prairie dropped their final game before the recess to No. 5 West Branch on the road 69-40. Alex Rath led the Hawks with 10 points. On the season Mid-Prairie has a trio in double figures led by Addison Rath at 13 points per game, Ali Butters at 11 per game and Alex Rath at 10 points per contest. Emily Cayton leads the Golden Hawks with 24 assists on the season, Ireland Hostetler leads the Mid-Prairie defense with 13 blocks while Addison Rath paces the Golden Hawks with 40 rebounds.

Highland enters the holiday recess with an 8-1 overall record. The Huskies are second in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division with a 5-1 mark in league play. In their last game the Huskies knocked off Columbus 64-50. Cheyanne Adamson led the way with 15 points. Highland is led on the year by Kelsey Hora at 18 points per game. Adamson is posting 16 points per contest while Alyson Stokes scores 10 per game. Hora also holds the team lead with 40 assists and 39 steals, while Stokes has pulled down 93 rebounds on the year.

Iowa Valley is 7-3 on the year and led by Senior Marissa Ward at 15 points per game. Chandler Sims leads the Tigers with 29 assists. Ward also leads Iowa Valley on the defensive side of the basketball, pulling in 70 rebounds and posting 23 blocks.
