The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams are back at Tim Grady Gymnasium Friday night to battle the West Branch Bears in River Valley Conference action.

The Golden Hawk girls are 7-3 on the season, 7-2 in conference play. In their last game Mid-Prairie used a fourth quarter comeback to beat Tipton on the road Tuesday 49-45. Alex Rath led the way for the Hawks with 15 points. On the year Addison Rath leds Mid-Prairie in scoring at 14 points per game, fifth best in the River Valley Conference. Emily Cayton leads Mid-Prairie with 28 assists, eighth best in the conference, Cayton also leads Mid-Prairie with 50 rebounds on the year.

West Branch enters play tonight with an overall record of 12-1, the Bears are 9-1 in the River Valley Conference and currently rated fourth in the latest class 2A rankings from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. In their last game the Bears beat Northeast Gooselake 42-34. Tatum Koenig led the way with her 15 points. On the year West Branch is led by Allyson Simpson at 13 points per game, fourth best in conference play. Haley Mullinex leads the River Valley with 45 assists and Haley Poula is third in the conference with her 93 rebounds.

These two teams met on December 22nd with West Branch blasting Mid-Prairie 69-40. The Bears knocked down 11 three point goals in the first match up and were led by 19 points from Allyson Simpson. Mid-Prairie was led by 10 points from Alex Rath.

The Mid-Prairie boys enter tonight’s doubleheader with an overall record of 0-10, the Golden Hawks are 0-9 in the River Valley Conference. Mid-Prairie was last in action Tuesday when they traveled to Tipton, falling to the Tigers 79-57. Caleb Statler led Mid-Prairie with 15 points. The Golden Hawks are led on the year by Nolan Faselt who is averaging 10 points, Faselt also leads Mid-Prairie with 24 assists. Noah Altenhofen and Caleb Statler are tied with the team lead for Mid-Prairie with 42 rebounds apiece.

West Branch enters tonight’s contest with an overall record of 5-9, the Bears are 3-8 in conference play this year. In their last game the Bears topped Wilton 58-49. West Branch was led by Cooper Cabela with 22 points. On the season West Branch is led by Cooper Kabela, averaging 18 points per game, second best in the conference, Kabela is also the leading rebounder for West Branch and in the conference with 102 on the year. Matt Shawver leads the Bears and the River Valley Conference with his 61 assists this year.

These two teams met on December 22nd with the Bears rolling to a 73-44 win behind a school record 46 points from freshman Beau Cornwell.
