The Mid-Prairie wrestling team hosted a River Conference triangular Thursday night at Tim Grady Gymnasium against West Branch and West Liberty.

The Golden Hawks entered the meet with a perfect 6-0 mark in conference action and were looking to grab the inside track to the school’s first ever conference title with a sweep. The Golden Hawks managed a split on the night, falling to the Comets and beating the Bears. Mid-Prairie’s first matchup of the night saw them battle perennial power West Liberty. The Comets took a 49-15 win. Mid-Prairie fell behind 22-0 early in the dual and was unable to recover. The Golden Hawks got wins in the matchup from Cameron Tolander with a 7-0 decision at 182lbs, Levi Duwa with a fall at 220lbs and Duncan McCain with a fall at 120lbs.

In the nightcap the Golden Hawks bounced back, blasting the West Branch Bears 56-14. Mid-Prairie got wins in contested matches from Jason Tew at 170lbs by fall, Levi Duwa by a 3-2 decision at 220lbs, Duncan McCain by tech fall at 120lbs, and Miles Burrows by fall at 126lbs.

Following the split Mid-Prairie is now 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the River Valley Conference.
