A man from Hills was rescued Thursday after falling through ice in Johnson County. At 10:38 a.m. authorities received a 911 call from a hunter who was alone and had fallen through ice in the Hawkeye Wildlife Area near Oxford and North Liberty. The hunter was 25-year-old Jared Bushell.

Authorities located Bushell after a brief search in a secluded area of the wetlands. He was pulled from the water by emergency crews who had on cold water rescue suits. According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, he was cold and wet, but otherwise uninjured.

North Liberty Police, North Liberty Fire Department, Swisher Fire Department and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Officers assisted at the scene.
