A busy week for the Highland Huskies’ basketball teams starts tonight in rural Riverside. The Huskies are set to host the Wilton Beavers in a pair of non-conference contests.

The Highland girls’ basketball team (10-1 overall) earned their 10th win of the season Friday night, downing the W-MU Wolves (0-10 overall), 58-31. Senior Cheyanne Adamson and junior Kelsey Hora combined to score 40 points, grab 10 rebounds, and dish out eight assists in the victory. The Beavers (2-8 overall) began their season on an eight-game losing streak, but have won their last two games. Freshman Kourtney Drake leads Wilton in scoring, averaging 12 points per game.

The Highland boys’ basketball team (8-2 overall) will look to return to winning form tonight after suffering a 61-52 setback Friday to the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (7-4 overall). The Huskies were outscored 19-5 in the fourth quarter, snapping the team’s seven game winning streak. Senior Trent Lasek leads the Huskies in scoring with 145 points. Wilton’s boys’ basketball team (5-3 overall) has won back-to-back games to start 2016. Senior Javin Drake has recorded the most points this season for Wilton, pouring in 146 points.

Tonight is the only home game this week for the Huskies. They are scheduled to travel to Letts on Tuesday, visit Wapello on Friday, and road trip to New London on Saturday.

Tonight’s varsity doubleheader begins at 6 p.m. with tip off of the girls’ game and the boys’ game to follow at Highland High School.
