The Iowa Mennonite School Pep Band is unique for the area. When most think of pep bands they think of trumpets, saxophones, and maybe a drummer. The IMS Pep Band is a full blown rock band and the group helps energize the atmosphere during basketball season. The group is made up by Emma Beachy, Lara Kliewer, Isaac Miller, Micah Miller, Cole Roth, and Jim Wang with sponsor Lee Ebersole.

The group plays a wide variety of music from Wipe Out to Enter Sandman and Seven Nation Army. The music must go through a approval process at the school. Ebersole tells KCII News, the band doesn’t sing lyrics and doesn’t play any music the school finds objectionable. Songs with violent or obscene lyrics will not be played by this band.

The group says the biggest hurdle is finding practice time. The group also hopes to play concerts outside of school once basketball season is over. The band plays at every home basketball game.
