A Southeast Iowa Superconference rivalry is set to renew tonight on the hardwood when Lone Tree travels to Hillcrest Union in Kalona to battle Iowa Mennonite School in double header action.

The IMS girls enter tonight’s contest with an 0-7 overall record. In their last game before break IMS fell to Pekin 64-29. Suzanna Yoder led the way in the game for Iowa Mennonite with a dozen points. On the season Rachel Miller leads IMS with seven points per game, Suzanna Yoder is the team leader with 15 assists and 34 rebounds. Lone Tree enters tonight’s game with a record of 6-3, the Lady Lions are 4-2 in conference action. In their last game Lone Tree outlasted Louisa-Muscatine 39-33 in overtime. Elena Sieverding led the charge with 15 points, Morgyn Edwards added 11. These two teams met twice a season ago with the Lions sweeping the series, winning 28-25 in Kalona and 39-27 at Lone Tree.

The boys contest is a showcase of two teams tied for first place in the Southeast Iowa Superconference North. Iowa Mennonite enters the contest with an overall record of 6-2, they are 4-1 in conference. In their last game, IMS stepped outside of conference play, falling to the Washington Demons on the road Saturday 68-55. Nick Yutzy led IMS with 17 points, Eli Gingerich had 16. On the year Gingerich leads IMS with 17 points per game, third best in the conference. Nick Yutzy and Drake Brezina are also averaging double figures per game at 12 and 10 points respectively. Gingerich also leads IMS with nine assists per game, second best in the conference. Brezina is the leading rebounder for IMS with six per game.

Lone Tree enters tonight’s contest with an overall record of 7-1. The Lions have a 4-1 mark in league play. Last time out for the Lions they topped Louisa-Muscatine on the road 77-72 on December 22nd. Jovonte Squires led Lone Tree with 22 points, Niko Gosnell had 15 and Ross Swinton added 12 points. On the year, Squires leads Lone Tree at 17 points per game, Gosnell is also in double figures at 14 points per game. Squires also has the team lead with 46 rebounds, 68 assists and 31 steals. Squires ranks in the top five in the conference in scoring, assists and steals. These two teams met twice a year ago, with each team winning on the other’s home floor. IMS scored a 67-61 win at Lone Tree, while the Lions edged IMS in Kalona 47-46.
