The Iowa Mennonite School boys basketball team opened the 2016 portion of their schedule Saturday on the road in Washington, falling to the Demons 68-55.

After a tightly contested first quarter, with Washington holding a 13-11 lead, the Demons exploded in the second quarter, going on a 26-8 run that lasted the entire frame. Washington used a stifling, extended 2-3 zone defense and the hot shooting of Derek Anding to race to a 39-19 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw Washington maintain control, stretching their lead to as many as 30 early in the period. The Demons still led by 25 going to the final eight minutes. In the final quarter Iowa Mennonite began to figure out the Washington zone defense behind the long range marksmanship of Nick Yutzy and Eli Gingerich who combined for seven three point goals in the game. IMS cut the Washington lead to 10 with two minutes remaining on a three pointer from Nick Yutzy, but that was as close as they would get as Demon star Derek Anding answered with a triple of his own to put the game out of reach.

The Demons were led on the night by Anding and his game high 31 points. IMS got a 17 point performance from Nick Yutzy and 16 from Eli Gingerich.

With the win Washington improves to 3-5 on the year, with the loss IMS falls to 6-2.
