Kirkwood Community College turns 50 years old this year. Tera Pickens, director of the Kirkwood Washington Regional Center, explains they will celebrate at the Washington location with a special Alive After 5 event with the Washington Chamber of Commerce. The community will be invited to the facility on February 9th to commemorate 50 years of education.

Pickens shares the college had a contest early on to decide on a name and there were a number of entries from Bob Hope Community College to Tallcorn. But the name Kirkwood was decided upon after former Governor Samuel J. Kirkwood.
