The defending champions of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North are playing better away from home this season. The Lone Tree Lions boys’ basketball team (13-2 overall; 10-2 SEISC) has once again rose to the top of the league standings. The Lions have won 13 of their 15 games played this season, and both losses came in front of the home town fans.

Tonight’s game versus the Winfield-Mount Union Wolves (12-5 overall; 9-3 SEISC) marks the seventh game away from Lone Tree for the Lions, winning the previous six. The Lions have scored 68 or more points in five of their six road games, and Lone Tree’s defense is giving up an average of 56.3 points.

Four of Lone Tree’s final five games of the regular season come against members of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North, three of which are on the road. With a four-point win Tuesday at Highland, the last team with a chance to spoil back-to-back league titles for the Lions’ is the Wolves. A win tonight against W-MU would give Lone Tree a two game lead in the standings with three league games remaining. A loss to the Wolves would bring both teams’ conference record to 10-3.

The varsity doubleheader between the Lions and Wolves begins at 6 p.m. with the girls’ contest and the boys’ will follow.
