The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team bounced back late to take out Tipton on the road Tuesday 49-45.

The two teams traded the lead in the first quarter with the Tigers holding a 15-11 lead at the end of the frame. The Tigers took control of the game in the second period by going on a 9-2 run, fueled by four three point goals. Mid-Prairie would find themselves down 27-23 at the halftime break. In the third quarter the Tigers continued to slowly stretch their lead, pushing things to a 39-31 advantage going to the final period. Mid-Prairie started the fourth quarter on a 10-1 to erase the deficit and take their first lead since the first quarter. The two teams went back and forth over the final three minutes. The Golden Hawks got free throws from Addison Rath and Ireland Hostetler down the stretch to keep the game tied, but the biggest play came from Alex Rath. With the game tied at 43 and one minute remaining out of a Mid-Prairie timeout, the Golden Hawks had drawn up a play only to turn the ball over. On Tipton’s next possession Alex Rath, stole a pass, raced to the other end, made the layup and was fouled, in a play that would turn out to be the game winner.

Alex Rath led Mid-Prairie with 15 points, she also pulled down eight rebounds and had four steals. With the win Mid-Prairie is now 7-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Golden Hawks will next be in action Friday night when they host West Branch.
