The man who won Iowa’s vote in the Republican caucus four years ago stopped in Washington Monday morning for a town hall meeting. Rick Santorum, a senator from Pennsylvania, met with voters at the Coffee Corner while wearing his bright red sweater vest and told the Iowans gathered that the race doesn’t start until they cast their votes Monday night. In 2012, Santorum narrowly beat Mitt Romney by 34 votes to win Iowa.

Speaking of what he would do if elected, Santorum stated he would work to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States with tax reform and addressing regulations while encouraging vocational training and trade schools for young Americans. He also said he would focus on strengthening families.

When asked about the Renewable Fuel Standard and ethanol, Santorum said he has supported ethanol and the RFS the entire campaign, as he wants the U.S. to use as much domestic fuel as possible and decrease the country’s dependency on foreign oil.

Santorum also spoke of his experience in the legislature with an ability to work together to reach goals. Santorum has served in the Senate for 12 years and was previously in the House of Representatives for four years.
