Temperatures have fallen below zero in the last few days and are expected to remain below freezing until Thursday, with these cold temperatures pet owners are reminded to take extra care of animals. Amber Talbot, director of PAWS and More Animal Shelter in Washington, suggests using heated water bowls to make sure animals have access to water at all times.

Also, speaking of dog houses she said plastic houses on their own will not provide enough insulation from the elements. She recommends using straw for bedding, and not towels or blankets, as those become rock hard when they get wet and freeze. Also, styrofoam around the perimeter of the house can help keep pets warmer during the winter months.
