A Washington County man was driving a semi when a vehicle didn’t yield, resulting in a fatal accident Tuesday. At approximately 6:18 p.m., in Chickasaw County, south of New Hampton, 43-year-old Kevin Powers of Ainsworth was driving a Peterbuilt semi on Highway 63, when a Chevrolet Malibu didn’t yield. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the semi struck the sedan in a broadside manner and both vehicles came to rest in the median. The right rear passenger of the Malibu was ejected.

Twenty-four-year-old Latorris Duffie, 29-year-old Keith Demry, and 25-year-old Devin Gordon were not wearing seatbelts. The three died in the wreck.

A passenger, 25-year-old Shaun Anderson was taken by ambulance to Mason City Mercy hospital and the driver, 22-year-old Bertha Smith of Waterloo was also injured and taken by ambulance to the hospital. Chickasaw County Sheriff’s office, Chickasaw County Fire and Rescue, Chickasaw County Ambulance and New Hampton Ambulance assisted at the scene.
