A Southeast Conference rivarly was renewed Friday night in Fairfield. The Washington Demon girls’ and boys’ basketball teams returned to league play battling the Trojans in a varsity doubleheader.

The girls’ game saw the No. 9 Trojans (12-5 overall) end the first half on a 17-0 run, propelling Fairfield to a 73-53 victory over Washington (6-8 overall). The game was tied at 24 before the Trojans went on their half ending run. Demon senior McKayla Miller scored a career-high 16 points, and grabbed six rebounds, while senior Brynna DeLong added 11 points and seven rebounds.

The boys’ game was a back-and-forth contest, featuring 17 lead changes and six ties. Fairfield (6-9 overall) outscored Washington (4-10), 17-9 in the third quarter, holding on for a 58-54 victory over Washington. Senior Derek Anding scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the first half.

The Demons are back on the court tomorrow, stepping out of conference play to host the Central Lee Hawks. The varsity doubleheader begins with the girls’ game at 6:15 p.m. and the boys will follow.
