The Winfield-Mt. Union jazz band looks to follow up a fifth place finish at the Iowa Jazz Championships. Director Logan Vander Wiel says, he hopes to build on the success of last year with another trip to the jazz championships. He says most of the group from last year is back this year after losing just three students to graduation. The group once again looks to make some noise. The band will play in the Iowa High School Music Association State Jazz Festival at Burlington High School on January 30th. The band will then look to earn a spot in the jazz championship at the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association District Jazz Contest at Iowa City West High School. This year’s Iowa Jazz Championships will be held on April 5th in Des Moines.
