Airbags deployed and one person was taken by ambulance to a local hospital following a car accident north of Washington Tuesday afternoon. The two sedans collided at the intersection of G36 and Riverside Road at approximately 1:03 p.m. Debris was scattered across the road, causing traffic in the area to be slowed.

The two drivers involved were Theodore Stewart of Washington and Robert Hutchinson of Fairfield. Washington County Ambulance transported one person to Washington County Hospital and Clinics. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, charges are pending on Stewart for failure to yield upon left hand turn. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Iowa State Patrol, Washington Rescue and Washington County Sheriff’s personnel also responded to the scene.
