Funding allocations in Washington’s budget were approved for Main Street Washington, Washington Economic Development Group, and Washington Chamber of Commerce by the city council at their budget workshop Tuesday night. The original requests of $20,000 for Main Street Washington and $21,420 for WEDG were approved unanimously. The Washington Chamber of Commerce initially requested $15,000, but amended the request over the weekend to $20,000. Michelle Redlinger, director of the Washington Chamber of Commerce, explained the extra $5,000 in funds is for the tourism branch of her office.

She explained the city’s promotional materials, including a magazine showcasing Washington needs to be updated as it was last done in 2012. Redlinger said they create all of the copy and photos and will look to print it locally. She added, the materials will be good to have updated and on hand when 20,000 or more people come through Washington this summer for RAGBRAI.

The amended $20,000 request was approved by the council unanimously.
