Monday is Presidents’ Day and in observance of the holiday many offices will be closed. Banks will be closed for the federal holiday and the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail. Government offices will also be closed, including the Washington County Courthouse, however the Clerk of Courts office will remain open. Also, the Washington Community School District will not have classes Monday or Tuesday.
According to the National Archives, the day is celebrated the third Monday of February and is one of 11 permanent holidays established by Congress. Presidents’ Day began as an observance of George Washington’s birthday in 1879.
