Saturday’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference wrestling meet saw the Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union squad earn multiple all-conference accolades. Four Wildcat wrestlers took first place in their respective weight divisions, including Josh Keller (113), Tucker Morrison (170), Jayce Malone (182), and Trace Taylor (285).

Keller gained all-conference honors for a third time in his career. After receiving a bye in the quarterfinals, the Columbus senior won his semifinal bout a in 58 seconds over Highland’s Brady Hahn. Keller’s 113 pound championship match ended with him pinning Wapello’s Timo Caro in 2:49.

Morrison earned all-conference distinction for a second straight season. He received a bye in the quarterfinal round before besting Van Buren’s Brandon Heisel by fall one minute into their semifinal match. The Columbus senior claimed the 170 pound title with an 8-1 decision over Louisa-Muscatine’s Hunter Connor.

Malone made the all-conference fraternity for the first time. The Winfield-Mount Union sophomore bypassed the quarterfinal round thanks to a bye, and advanced to the 182 pound title match by pinning WACO’s Alfredo De La Cruz in 2:39. Malone’s championship match ended with him pinning Van Buren’s Terry Rankin.

Trace Taylor rounds out Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union’s all-conference honorees, gaining the recognition for the first time. The Columbus senior was ushered into the semifinal round due to a bye, and made the final round by pinning West Burlingon/Notre Dame’s Drake Fox in their semifinal bout. Taylor captured the 285 pound conference championship by fall in 5:05 over WACO’s Cody Crawford.

Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union finished second in the team standings with 166.5 points. Mediapolis won the team conference title with 202 points.

Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union is gearing up for the start of postseason grapples Saturday. The Wildcats are set to compete in the Class 2A Section 7 tournament at Mediapolis High School. Schools wrestling in the sectional include: Washington, Mid-Prairie, Fairfield, Mediapolis, and West Burlington/Notre Dame. First matches are set for noon.
