Two area basketball teams opened the postseason tournament against one another Thursday in Wayland. The WACO Warriors (8-15 overall) hosted the Keota Eagles (1-21 overall) in the Class 1A Region 4 tournament at Bob Hilmer Court. WACO used a 18-3 run in the third quarter to continue their season going for a few more days with a 46-19 win.

WACO held a 22-13 halftime lead, growing it to 40-16 after the third quarter. Junior Hallie Kissel led the Warriors with a game-high 14 points, while Kianna Miller chipped in nine points. Keota senior Grace Shemanski led the Eagles with seven points in her final high school basketball game.

The win improves WACO to 8-15 overall, advancing them into Tuesday’s quarterfinal round versus the No.4 Burlington Notre Dame Nikes (20-1). The loss ends Keota’s season at 1-21 overall.
