It has been an eventful stretch for the Washington Demon bowling teams as of late. The Demons competed in two meets in the span of three days, battling the Fairfield Trojans in a Southeast Conference meet Saturday and a four-team tournament Monday in Muscatine.

The Demon boys’ bowling team (5-5 overall) led wire-to-wire Saturday, avenging an early season loss to the Trojans by score of 2,663-2,604. Junior Colin Zear, this week’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week, scored a season-best individual score of 429 to lead Washington. The Demons led 1,809-1,762 after the individual round, edging the Trojans in the baker games as well, 854-842.

They followed up the conference win with a second place finish in the Louisa-Muscatine tournament Monday at Plamor Lanes. Washington recorded a team score of 2,730, 12 pins shy of the tournament champion Camanche (8-2 overall). Junior Kolton Segebart led the Demons with an individual round of 403. Washington earned 1,840 in the individual rounds, picking up an additional 890 points during the baker rounds.

The Washington girls’ bowling team was shorthanded, competing with three girls. Against Fairfield, all three posted two-game scores above 240 in a 2,363-1,116 setback. Sophomore AnnaMarie Walter led Washington with 262 points. The Demons collected 761 points in the individual portion of the meet, adding 351 more in the baker rounds.

The Demons also competed with three girls in Monday’s Louisa-Muscatine tournament, posting an overall score of 1,068. Walter once again led Washington in individual scoring, marking a 289. The Demons scored 755 in the personal games, earning 313 additional points in the baker rounds.

The Demon bowlers are gearing up to host the Southeast Conference bowling tournament this Saturday. First pins will drop at 1 p.m. at Lebowski’s Rock N Bowl in Washington.
