Members of Demon Nation are descending on Iowa’s capital city tomorrow for the 2016 Iowa State Dual Team Wrestling Tournament. The No. 7 Washington Demon wrestling team (31-1 overall) qualified for their first state dual appearance in program history last week, defeating West Liberty (55-21) and Williamsburg (39-19) in the regional dual tournament held at Washington High School.

Ten Demon wrestlers have won over 30 matches this season, including: Walker Ikerd (113; 38-8), David Hora (120; 32-15), Andrew Waite (126; 34-12), Kyle Anderson (132; 40-10), Austin Hazelett (138; 43-6), Michael Ellingson (145; 39-12), Trey Van Weelden (152; 45-2), Tristan Westphal-Edwards (160; 40-8), Karlton Skuball (182; 39-8), and Mitchell Huseinga (285; 33-17). Waite, Hazelett, Van Weelden, and Westphal-Edwards each finished in the top two spots in their district, qualifying the quartet for the state individual wrestling tournament beginning Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena.

Washington’s quarterfinal dual opponent is the No. 2 Davenport Assumption Knights (17-1 overall), who have won 17 of their 18 duals this year. The Knights have eight wrestlers competing in tomorrow’s individual state tournament, including Matthew Randone (106; 1st), Jacob Feldman (113; 2nd), Jacob Fenske (120; 1st), Kirk Mommsen (138; 2nd), Nick Johnson (152; 2nd), Chris Bridges (182; 1st), Noah Broderson (220; 1st), and Travis Bruns (285; 2nd).
