Two Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestlers will be on the mat this evening at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines to open the individual state wrestling tournament.

Both Mid-Prairie juniors Duncan McCain at 113lbs and Levi Duwa at 220lbs qualified for the state meet on Saturday as district champions. They will begin their state tournament run in Des Moines during this evening’s class 2A first round opening session. McCain enters tonight with an overall record of 40-1, his only loss of the season coming in the sectional tournament to at the time undefeated Josh Keller of Columbus, a loss McCain avenged in taking the district title Saturday at Clear Creek Amana. McCain is rated sixth in class 2A in the final rankings from thepredicament.com. McCain is opposed by Riley Wright of Denver-Tripoli. Wright, a freshman, enters the tournament as a district runner up with an overall record of 45-4. He is currently rated fourth in the state in the latest poll from thepredicament.com.

Levi Duwa enters Thursday with an overall record of 41-3. Duwa is rated sixth in the state in class 2A at 220lbs in the latest poll from thepredicament.com. Duwa is opposed by Aaron Maloy of Charles City. Maloy enters the tournament as a district runner up, the junior has an overall record of 28-11.

Both wrestlers will be on the mat at least once this evening. If they win their first match they will not wrestle again until Friday, should they lose they would wrestle a second time this evening in the consolation rounds. The class 2A opening round session begins this evening at 6PM at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
