The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team took four wrestlers to Saturday’s district meet at Clear Creek Amana.

Levi Duwa and Duncan McCain were able to extend their season to the state tournament with impressive performances.

McCain entered Saturday as the two seed in the 113lb bracket. McCain won his first match of the day topping Caleb Fuessley of Center Point Urbana 3-1. In the championship match McCain met the only competitor he had lost to on the season in undefeated Josh Keller from Columbus. In a back and forth match McCain scored a takedown with under five seconds remaining to hand Keller his first defeat on the year 6-4.

Levi Duwa flexed his muscles in the 220lb bracket Saturday entering as the number one overall seed. Duwa won his first round match over Logan Knutson of Williamsburg by fall in under a minute. In the title match Duwa wrestled Gage Jarrett of West Burlington, Notre Dame, who he defeated at Mediapolis for the sectional title. Duwa claimed the district title in dominating performance knocking off Jarrett by a 13-2 major decision.

Also in action for Mid-Prairie Saturday were Cameron Tolander at 170lbs and Visouth Peterschmidt at 195lbs. Tolander fell in his first match of the day 10-1 to Will Reiter of Union, La Porte City. Tolander bounced back to edge Sam Maresh of Benton Community 3-1 but did not get a wrestleback due to how the bracket played out on the other side. Peterschmidt won his first match of the day, topping former teammate Miguel Sanchez of Williamsburg 3-1. Peterschmidt then dropped the title match to Ethan Timmerman of Mediapolis 6-3, leaving him in a wrestleback for a state berth. In the wrestleback match, Blade Durbala of Benton Community beat Peterschmidt 7-1.

Duwa and McCain will both be in action in Des Moines in Thursday night’s class 2A first round session. For full interviews with McCain and Duwa tune into Wednesday’s PM Sports Page on KCII.
