Mid-Prairie’s Levi Duwa had his impressive run through the individual state wrestling tournament end on Championship Saturday this past weekend as he vied for the individual title in the 220lb weight class.

Duwa advanced to the championship match by winning his first three bouts in Des Moines including defeating second rated Kadon Hulett of Creston/Orient-Macksburg by fall in 5:57 in the semifinals. In the final Duwa met top ranked Gavin Dinsdale of Webster City. Dinsdale came into the match with an overall record of 48-1. Each wrestler scored an escape during regulation, leaving the score tied at one going to overtime. In sudden victory, Duwa took a shot that was countered by Dinsdale into a pinning combination, giving Dinsdale the win by fall in 6:21 and the state title.

Duwa’s runner-up finish is the best for a Mid-Prairie wrestler since 1993 when heavyweight Adam Greiner won his second consecutive state championship. Duwa finishes the season with an overall record of 48-3.
