The No. 14 in class 3A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team travels to Oskaloosa Saturday night to take on the South Tama Trojans in the regional final.

The Golden Hawks advanced to tonight’s game by routing Central Lee on the road Wednesday 84-52 behind 24 points from Alex Rath and a strong defensive effort. The Golden Hawks forced 19 Lady Hawk turnovers and held Central Lee 13 points below their season scoring average. Mid-Prairie enters tonight’s game with an overall record of 15-8, winners of six in a row. Mid-Prairie finished 11-7 in the River Valley South, taking fourth place. The Golden Hawks are led on the year by Ali Butters at 12 points per game, seventh in the RVC. Alex Rath has the team lead with 66 assists, second best in the RVC south. Addison Rath paces the Golden Hawks with 116 rebounds.

South Tama enters tonight’s game with an overall record of 12-11. They finished 6-8 in league play taking fifth place in the WAMAC West. The Trojans advanced to tonight’s regional final with a win over Williamsburg on Wednesday night in State Center 55-33. Tieranny Keahna and Jessica Musgrave led the charge with 13 points each. On the season the Trojans are led by Madie Bacon at 13 points per game, sixth best in the conference. Dani Stubbs holds the team lead with 71 assists third in the WAMAC West and Tieranny Keahna paces the Trojans with 141 rebounds on the year fifth in conference play.

With a win the Golden Hawks would qualify for their first state tournament since the 2012-2013 season and the seventh time in program history. South Tama is looking for their fourth state tournament appearance in school history and first since 2011.
