The backcourt of the Highland Huskies basketball teams were factors in a pair of victories last night. The Huskies were in Columbus Junction Thursday, battling the Wildcats in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North doubleheader.

The girls’ game saw the Huskies (16-4 overall) clamp down defensively, earning to a 61-25 victory. Highland’s guard combo of senior Cheyanne Adamson and junior Kelsey Hora combine to score 38 points in the victory. Huskies girls’ basketball coach Jodi Fink told KCII Sports after the game that he was pleased with his team’s defense on Columbus juniors Shania Boyd and Bailey Stroud. The duo, who combined to score 47 of the Wildcat’s 50 points in their first meeting of the season, were held to 16 points in the rematch. The win improves Highland’s current winning streak to three games, improving to 16-4 overall.

The boys’ game saw Highland face early adversity against winless Columbus. The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the Huskies, but couldn’t sustain the lead as Highland won the game, 63-43. Huskies junior Trent Lasek posted a double-double, 15 points and 10 assists, while senior Tucker Hall dropped 14 points. The win improves Highland to 14-5 overall, while the loss drops Columbus to 0-18.

Both schools are back on the court tonight for another conference doubleheader. Highland stays home to host the WACO Warriors, while Columbus hits the road to battle Mediapolis.
