The No. 14 in class 3A Mid-Prairie girls basketball team opened up regionals Saturday in Wellman with a big win over visiting Albia 69-23.

Mid-Prairie got out to a fast start, scoring the game’s first eight points and holding a 12-3 lead after one quarter. In the second Mid-Prairie continued to pour it on, outscoring Albia 28-9 in the frame to take a 40-12 lead into the half. The Golden Hawks made sure Albia couldn’t make a push, going on an 18-7 run that lasted the entire third quarter to lead 58-19 going to the fourth. With the continuous clock enacted Mid-Prairie was able to cruise to the win. The Golden Hawks were spurred by a big defensive effort, forcing 44 Albia turnovers in the contest.

Offensively, Mid-Prairie was led by Addison Rath with 17 points, Ali Butters added 10. With the win Mid-Prairie is now 14-8 on the year. The Golden Hawks will be back in action Wednesday night when they travel to Donnellson to battle Central Lee in the regional semifinals.
