A regular season rematch awaits the Highland Huskies girls’ basketball team (17-5 overall) in their postseason opener tonight. The Huskies end a 10-day layoff, beginning their postseason run at home versus the West Burlington Falcons (7-15 overall).

The last time Highland competed on the hardwood was February 6, dropping a 66-63 contest to the Central Lee Hawks (17-4 overall) in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Shootout game. The contest featured a battle of second place teams in each division of the league. Senior Cheyanne Adamson and junior Kelsey Hora each scored 17 points in the setback.

The Huskies’ 17-win regular season earned the squad a bye in the first round round of the Class 2A Region 5 bracket. The Falcons advanced to tonight’s regional quarterfinal by defeating the Danville Bears (10-11 overall), 39-26, Saturday in Danville.

Highland and West Burlington met one time during the regular season. The Huskies downed the Falcons, 62-49, December 7 in West Burlington. Hora led the Huskies with a game-high 25 points, grabbed six rebounds, swiped six steals, and dished out five assists in the victory.

The winner of tonight’s regional semifinal will advance to Friday’s semifinal round versus the winner of the Pekin Panthers (21-1 overall) and the Columbus Wildcats (9-14 overall). Tip off of tonight’s Class 2A Region 5 quarterfinal game between Highland and West Burlington is set for 7 p.m. at Highland High School.
