Kirkwood Community College is half a century old this year. The main campus in Cedar Rapids and all of the satellite locations, including the Kirkwood Washington Regional Center, are celebrating the 50 year milestone. Tera Pickens, director of the Kirkwood Washington Regional Center, says the community is invited to an Alive After 5 event Tuesday will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Kirkwood has been in the Washington area since 1968 offering skilled trades classes.
Since the new facility in Washington opened more than 5,200 credit hours have been earned by high school students.
