Mid-Prairie wrestlers Duncan McCain and Levi Duwa advanced through day one of the individual state wrestling tournament on Wednesday in Des Moines.

At 113lbs in class 2A, Duncan McCain lost his state tournament opener to Riley Wright of Denver-Tripoli by an 8-0 major decision. McCain rebounded to stay alive, pinning Walter Long of Bondurant-Farrar in his consolation elimination match in 2:50. McCain is still awaiting his opponent in the wrestleback round, he will either face 38-6 sophomore Brady Fritz of South Tama County or 37-5 junior Carter Cox of Atlantic.

At 220lbs, Levi Duwa was a winner in his first round match 6-2 over Aaron Maloy of Charles City. Duwa will see Ko Kleft of Sioux Center in his first match of the day Kleft is a senior with a 41-3 overall record. He advanced to today’s quarterfinal match with a 1-0 decision over Travis Poffenbarger of Knoxville Wednesday.
