The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team received a sendoff pep rally at Mid-Prairie High School on Sunday afternoon.

MC for the day’s activities was public address announcer Chris Hotchkiss. During the rally Mid-Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider, Mid-Prairie head girls basketball coach Stephen Bender and several members of the Mid-Prairie girls basketball team all spoke. Each member of the team was introduced, participated in a pie eating contest and the winners of the contest were able to pie one of their coaches. Also honored during the rally were the Mid-Prairie state qualifying wrestlers, pep band and cheerleaders.

The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team left for Des Moines following the ceremony. They will make stops in Iowa City to practice at Carver-Hawkeye Arena and the Knapp Center to practice on the campus of Drake University. The No. 14 ranked Golden Hawks open up the state tournament Tuesday when they take on No. 2 ranked Center Point-Urbana. You can hear all of the action live on AM and FM KCII with the Washington HyVee pregame show at 2:45 and tipoff at 3:15PM live from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
