The Mid-Prairie boys basketball team learned their playoff fate this week when the class 2A district brackets were released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

The Golden Hawks will open up the playoffs on Monday, February 15th against the Wilton Beavers. The game is the first of a doubleheader of first round games to be played at Iowa City Regina High School. The Golden Hawks have dropped both contests with the Beavers this season, the first on December 11th in Wilton 69-44, the second in Wellman January 26th 50-47. Mid-Prairie enters the playoffs with a 1-16 overall record while Wilton is 11-7 on the year.

If the Golden Hawks win they would advance to the district semifinals on Thursday, February 18th at Durant High School against the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons. On the other side of the bracket are West Liberty and Iowa City Regina who will play in the first round doubleheader nightcap in Iowa City on February 15th and the Durant Wildcats. The Wildcats are the number one overall seed in the district and receive a first round bye. Mid-Prairie’s only win of the season came against Durant Saturday, January 30th 55-50 in overtime.
